As a social being, a dog’s sense of smell is his primary way to gather information and learn about his world. Recent studies suggest that allowing your dog to explore the world through his nose is important to his welfare, improving optimism and confidence as he makes independent choices through problem solving while searching for a desired source.
See Spot Grin offers a multitude of olfactory enrichment opportunities for dogs of all ages, sizes and abilities. Whether your dog is a pet, a retired working dog, an up and coming performance dog, shy or reactive, he can sniff!
The K9 Nose Work® training philosophy makes it even more fun by focusing on your dog's motivation to hunt in new and exciting ways than he's searched before. In addition to offering your dog a task that isn't taxing on his body, nose work is a great confidence builder, and offers your dog the mental stimulation to keep him satisfied day after day. Our skills and concepts are easy to apply at home or on the go, and offer the mental stimulation and satisfaction to keep your dog mentally and physically exercised.
Play at home or choose to compete, the sky's the limit in how See Spot Grin can help your dog get his sniff on and improve your relationship in the process. You'll be amazed with your dog's scenting abilities. The nose knows!
Intro to K9 Nose Work®
Start here! This foundational class introduces dogs to the game of K9 Nose Work®, encouraging their desire to hunt for food and building independence. Through searching for food indoors and in containers, dogs learn to navigate airflow, explore high and low, and problem-solve with confidence. Handlers will also begin developing essential observation skills. This course lays the groundwork for success and is a prerequisite for further courses.
Jessica Daggit, PNWI, offers this class in the See Spot Grin classroom.
Intro to Odor
At this level, dogs are introduced to the scents of birch, anise, and clove by pairing each odor with food, imprinting the odor. Dogs will also begin exploring more advanced concepts indoors, in containers, and outdoors. Vehicle and exterior searches as well as handling concepts are introduced.

Continuing Nose Work
Dogs continue sharpening their search skills, and you'll continue improving your observation and handling skills to be sure you're ready for even the upper levels of competition if you choose to trial with your dog. However, competition is not an expectation or requirement! There are plenty of folks in this class who just want to keep their dog happily searching along and this is where you do it.
Cindy Knowlton, CNWI offers these classes to her existing clients in the See Spot Grin classroom. She is not currently accepting additional clients.
