- Water (for you and the dog)
- Flat buckle or martingale style collar or a well fitted traditional style harness during class. No head halters, easy walk harnesses or prong collars may be used while the dog is searching, but can be used to and from the building as needed. Electronic collars are not permitted on the grounds.
- A six foot leather or nylon leash (no chain or retractable leashes.)
- Treats and/or toys. HIGH VALUE TREATS! Bring a variety in case what you thought was going to work doesn't. Sometimes your usual food reward for other activities is not high enough value for nose work. We've found some of the following to be highly motivating: chicken, cheese, hot dogs, salmon, sausage, mackeral, meatballs, bleu cheese, liverwurst. Please avoid crumbly, crunchy type treats.
- A hungry and motivated dog. If you feed your dog prior to class, please give him a light meal so that he's hungry and motivated. Also, if you have a high energy dog, please don't burn them out with a long hike or play session prior to class.
